About Our Church

Home-placeholder
South West Community Church is a vibrant and friendly community of believers who enjoy meeting together to worship, encourage and help each other grow in their relationship with God. We desire to cultivate a church where the Word of God is preached, and people have ample opportunity to be discipled and use their spiritual gifting in ministry to each other.

We meet each Sunday morning from 10am at the Fawthrop Community Center in Hood Street, Portland Victoria. Occasionally we hold our services at a different location or include an evening service for guest speakers and special events. These are posted here on our website.

Our services contain a lively mix of worship, communion, notices, prayer and a sermon from our Pastor Shane Whitbourn or a guest speaker followed by fellowship, tea and a bite to eat.

During the service we hold creche and Sunday School classes including Kindling Kids, Kids-U-Nite and Young Guns.

Outside of church we regularly meet for home, foundation, study and womens groups. Our 2 youth groups for children and teens meet for study, games and outings. We also enjoy open social activities including BBQ’s, horse riding, games and water sports.

Worship Team:

Our enthusiastic and talented group of musicians and singers are committed to producing a high standard of contemporary Praise & Worship music to help our congregation worship God with vibrance and passion.  The team is headed up by Worship Director, Julian Gollasch, and assisted by Glenda Whitbourn.

During our Sunday 10am Service:

A fun & interactive program for Toddlers & Preschool children runs during the second half of the service (during the main message).  Includes  singing, Bible stories, activities and playtime. All Kindling Kids leaders hold a current Working With Children Check.

Primary School-aged children leave the service immediately after communion to enjoy a fun Bible-based program where they have opportunity to learn truths of the Christian Faith in an age-appropriate setting.

A teaching program for Junior High-school students (Yr7-9).  A discipleship study, leading youth through biblical truth and how it relates to their lives.  They are also able to discuss current issues with leaders and their peers. Young Guns also runs during the main message.
